Just a Thought - 03/31/20

Five days ago, Gordon Brown, who served as Prime Minister of England (2007-2010) made a most telling suggestion. The Prime Minister expressed the feeling that the twin problems characterizing the corona-virus crisis would be most effectively handled by what he calls a “temporary world Government.” The physical health of the world’s population as well as the global economic downturn being experienced by every country, pose a problem too great for any one country to address. Brown suggests that the G20 nations should determine the direction that potential solutions to the problems must take.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the G20, allow me to provide a very brief description. “G20” stands for “The group of 20“ and is a forum for discussions to be held by 19 of the world’s most advanced and emerging economies along with the European Union. This massive group accounts for up to 80% of world trade, two-thirds of the world's population and about 90% of the world's wealth. This is indeed an extremely powerful block of nations led by king Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia.

Prime Minister Brown further reasonably advises that from the G20, there be an "executive" appointed to govern the operations of this temporary world Government.

I would say no more about the Prime Minister's suggestion and I do not know whether the world's leaders would at this time seriously consider it. I was however, startled by it and could not help but think that Brown's suggestion is not altogether without meaning. In fact, it is true that the covid19 is first of all, a brand new virus with which our medical experts are unfamiliar. The world's scientists in every country are currently employed with the task of learning about chemical structure of the virus and creating a vaccine along with viable medication to combat it. State leaders can only hope for the best outcome as they attempt to encourage their citizens. Fear grips the land as we face daily increasing numbers of people succumbing to covid19. For now, the truth is, no one has any 'answers' as close to one million people are infected and tens of thousands have died. Some countries are considering GPS tracking to monitor human movement The economic carnage across our planet is unprecedented and life as we have always known it has changed, virtually overnight. People are loosing jobs and homes; all schools and most businesses have been ordered closed and places of worship are shut down. Gordon Brown's suggestion may be quite reasonable.

Let me share a thought:

Try to imagine the sudden happening of an event for which there is no warning and no precedent: Multiple millions of the world's population in every country are instantly removed. This group will no doubt include hospital patients and doctors, ship and airplane pilots on duty, the young, the very young, middle aged and elderly believers, prisoners who have given their hearts to Jesus and even the deceased believers in Christ. I cannot conceive of a greater state of complete chaos for those 'left behind'. The remaining world would be scrambling to assess the disorder and confusion. No one would be able to calm the mass hysteria. This condition would doubtless necessitate the coming together of all world's leaders. Naturally, a temporary world Government would have to be hastily formed in order to deal with this sudden and greatest global crisis. The world would have never seen anything like this before. Everyone would have an opinion; everyone would have a suggestion; everyone would want to offer an explanation; and yes, everyone would want to share their ideas for bringing a semblance of sanity to the world. Naturally, one executive, brilliant leader would have to be trusted to forge order out of the prevailing chaos. Just a thought!
