Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, and said to the men "I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you." - Joshua 2: 8
The above verse refers to the time when Joshua has taken over the command from Moses and leads the children of Israel towards the brink of the promise land. Two spies are chosen to enter and complete a reconnaissance of the land. They end up in the house of Rahab in Jericho, where they were hidden on the rooftop from the Governmental authorities. The Canaanite, Rahab, visits the rooftop and addresses the spies with the words cited in Joshua 2:8. It's important to note that she acknowledges that the God of the Hebrews had taken the land of Canaan away from her and her idol worshiping peoples and given it to the escapees from Egypt. The modern gentile church needs to pay attention to Rahab's words as she chose them very carefully. She did not say " I think your God....." or "I wonder if your God has given you the land ...." but "I know that the Lord has given you the land....." In other words, the land of Canaan (Including modern Israel) belongs to the Jews. God never intended that it be shared with anyone else. Besides, Rahab, who was a pagan worshiper of false gods, even knew the name of the Hebrew God. In fact, in the Hebrew Tanakh, Rahab used the ineffable name of God which we write as YHWH and read as Adonai.
I can certainly understand world Governments and politicians negotiating Israel's land in exchange for Middle east peace, but the Christian church should not and must not subscribe to that approach. After all, Joel 3:2 still serves as a dire warning to all.
Just a Thought!
It was wonderful to talk on the phone and pray just recently with many of the members of FHG, For those who were not available, I left a voice mail. My prayer continues to be that our great God will watch over and protect you especially through these difficult times.
